Bunker Linings

Many areas of industrial production handle large quantities of raw materials stored as bulk goods in silos or bunkers. Highly abrasive materials like sand, coal, or ores in bulk material handling can cause significant damage. Linings made of various materials – tailored to the specific bulk material – protect and optimize the sliding process in their application. The right lining prevents material from sticking to silo walls and bridges from forming during discharge. Our extensive product range offers the right material for every application.

A coal mining company in Indonesia faced the challenge of minimizing wear and the adhesion of moist, sticky coal material in the transport shaft. The material from the waste container, which after processing in the filter press machine was almost solid but still sticky, was particularly problematic.

To address these challenges, the shaft was lined with 20 mm thick Dialen® PE-UHMW sheets. The special material composition of Dialen® significantly reduces impact wear and minimizes coal adhesion. As a result, a major improvement was achieved: the machines now run for extended periods without disruption, downtime and maintenance effort were greatly reduced, and energy costs dropped. Thanks to the Dialen® lining, our customer was able to sustainably increase the efficiency of their systems and make operations more economical.

Smooth Material Flow 

With the use of Dialen® 

In bulk material handling systems such as bunkers, silos, hoppers, chutes, and troughs, material flow disruptions frequently occur, which can significantly impact the efficiency of entire production processes. Typical problems like core flow, bridging, or caking not only reduce conveying capacity but, in the worst case, can lead to a complete plant shutdown – with considerable economic consequences. 

The causes of these disruptions are varied but can generally be traced back to a few fundamental factors: 

  • A too large friction angle prevents the uniform flow of bulk material. 
  • Caking and adhesion lead to deposits on the inner walls, hindering the material flow. 
  • Corrosion on contact surfaces not only promotes caking but also increases friction, further impeding material flow.

Our Dialen® products provide an effective solution. Due to their very low friction coefficient, excellent sliding properties, and high resistance to chemical and mechanical influences, our Dialen® products ensure a smooth material flow – even with demanding bulk materials or challenging environmental conditions.

By strategically using Dialen® linings in plant components, material flow disruptions can be sustainably avoided, maintenance intervals extended, and ultimately, the availability and efficiency of the entire system significantly increased.
