Rehabilitation

#APPLICATION EXAMPLE

Stroke patients almost always suffer from a prolonged loss of bodily functions, especially paralysis of the musculoskeletal system.

Requirement: In the process of restoring walking ability, gait patterns are practiced with the help of physiotherapists. The rehabilitation is laborious, and until now, it has been largely without targeted technical support.

Our solution: Together with several project partners, we developed an adaptive motor orthosis that extends over the foot and knee joints, serving active gait rehabilitation. The framework made of composite materials is incredibly light and perfectly adapted to the individual needs of its wearer. The integrated actuators provide active, precisely calculated support for the walking movement, and the sensors enable targeted patient monitoring. With an intelligent and individualized lightweight orthosis, we are setting new standards in medical technology.

SAFETY & ERGONOMICS FOR PATIENTS

#APPLICATION EXAMPLE

Thanks to our unique solution for the lying surface of the world's first breast CT scanner, based on spiral CT and photon-counting technology, safety and ergonomics are combined in a single component. With our component, we ensure the most ergonomic lying surface, optimal positioning for the examination, and at the same time reliable radiation protection for the patient.

Positioning Systems for Radiosurgery

#APPLICATION EXAMPLE

For imaging and patient positioning in radiosurgery, we manufacture high-precision components made of carbon, each fulfilling different functions, but all uniting the same advantages:

  • X-ray Transparent
  • Lightweight
  • Dimensionally Stable

They are therefore ideally suited for use in medical environments.

X-RAY TRANSPARENT
COMPONENTS FOR DIAGNOSTICS

#APPLICATION EXAMPLE

MURTFELDT develops and manufactures numerous structural components for diagnostic applications that are X-ray transparent, enabling flawless imaging.

One example is our CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) surfaces used in operating tables. These components are characterized by their high stiffness and radiation transparency, allowing for interference-free imaging during diagnostic procedures. Although the surfaces are typically covered with sterile drapes and do not come into direct contact with the patient, they meet the highest hygiene standards: they are burr-free, resistant to sweat and other bodily fluids, and highly durable.

Thanks to variable interfaces, medical devices and additional holders can be integrated flexibly – ensuring maximum functionality and optimal adaptation to each specific application.

SMALL ANIMAL Carrier

#APPLICATION EXAMPLE

Additive Manufacturing for Preclinical Diagnostics – Functionality Meets Precision

For use in preclinical research, we have developed small animal holders for CT applications – specially designed to precisely position small animals like mice or rats during imaging. The holders are made entirely of plastic to remain transparent to radiation and enable flawless diagnostics.

Thanks to additive manufacturing, complex internal geometries can be realized, integrating anesthesia gas and warm water channels. This ensures the animal is safely sedated during the procedure and protected from hypothermia. The holders are easy to clean and disinfect, making them ideal for frequent use in sensitive laboratory environments.

HIGH-QUALITY, ADJUSTABLE ARM RESTS

#APPLICATION EXAMPLE

We manufacture armrests that serve as attachments to operating tables, combining ergonomics, functionality, and high-quality materials to ensure the best possible conditions during surgeries and examinations. The angle-adjustable design allows for optimal positioning to provide easier access during medical procedures.

Thanks to our versatile manufacturing capabilities, we use a carefully considered combination of materials: the armrest itself is made from lightweight and stable carbon fiber composite, while the adjustment mechanism is produced from Murytal® C through machining. This results in durable, easy-to-clean, and highly functional components that meet the high standards of medical technology.

C-ARM FOR MOBILE DIAGNOSTIC DEVICE

#APPLICATION EXAMPLE

Especially in mobile diagnostic devices, a low weight combined with high stiffness is extremely important. The device usually needs to be moved from one place to another by a single person, positioned properly, and operated, which makes low weight essential. At the same time, the imaging must not be negatively affected by instability or resonance during the examination, so high stiffness is crucial. With our solution, a C-arm made of composite materials, we offer an optimal combination of low weight and high stiffness for precise imaging and user-friendliness. The weight-optimized, isocentric design saves time, reduces radiation dose, and is particularly used for intraoperative 3D imaging.
