Step by step

to the right system

The different sizes

Here you’ll find compact background information to help you choose the right tensioning system for your application. If you have any questions about selection or special requirements, our application consulting team is here to help.

The wide range of our tensioning systems for chains and belts allows us to meet almost any of your needs quickly and precisely.

Choice of sliding profiles

Curved profile

This is the mechanically most favorable sliding profile shape, allowing simultaneous contact with multiple rollers. The chain is optimally protected in the process.

Elliptical profile

An elliptical sliding profile with 180° rotation is the ideal option when space below the chain is limited. Alternatively, it can be mounted next to the chain (Spann-Boy®).

Deflection profile

For long chains, a deflection profile is a suitable option. The 180° redirection allows for double utilization of the extended tensioning travel. It is perfectly suited for use in reversing operation.

Block profile

For particularly heavy chains and high mass forces. The sliding profile and tensioning core are manufactured from a single piece, without any screw connections, ensuring high stability.

Half-round profile

It is designed for 90° redirections. The half-round profile contacts only a few chain rollers. This Spann-Box® type is recommended for installations with limited space.

Roller/Sprocket

For small redirections and high chain speeds (> 1 m/s), a sprocket is the right choice.

Differences in guide profiles

Roller chains are usually tensioned via their rollers, which is why our sliding profiles feature a guide profile. These can be manufactured for simplex, duplex, and triplex chains. For smaller chains (≤ 06B-1), there is also the option of using a U-profile.

Maximum drive speeds

The maximum possible speeds depend heavily on the duty cycle. For a high duty cycle, the following applies: up to 1 m/s for standard sliding profiles made from Original "S"® green. For higher speeds, Spann-Box® types with sprockets or sliding profiles made from high-performance materials are available (up to 8 m/s).

Tensioning travel and tensioning force

To ensure the optimal force can be applied, we offer two different spring strengths (light and heavy), as well as the option to individually adjust the tensioning force by removing individual springs.
