On June 27 and 28, 2025, the Germany finals of the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) took place at the Westfalenhalle Dortmund. Over 450 children and young people in 130 teams presented their autonomous robot solutions to more than 3,000 visitors. We were there not only as an exhibitor but also as a main sponsor with our booth and further engagement.

What is the WRO?

The WRO is an international robotics competition that introduces children and young people to technology, robotics, and future technologies in a playful and practical way. With regional qualifiers, the Germany finals, and ultimately a world final, the competition provides a platform for young talents to showcase their skills in robotics.

This year’s motto, “The Future of Robots,” focused on forward-thinking and technological innovations — goals that we at MURTFELDT also pursue. As a company now in its fourth generation producing high-performance materials for industrial applications, we see it as part of our social responsibility to support the next generation of technical professionals and inspire enthusiasm for STEM careers.

Hands-On Technology: The MURTFELDT Booth

At our booth, children and young people had the opportunity to experience our technical plastics in practice. They could explore various exhibits, ask questions, and participate in a workshop led by our colleague Dieter to learn about the properties and applications of the materials.

A particular crowd-puller was the GET Racing race car next to our booth. Our phone holders, Iso drinks, and MURTFELDT socks were also very popular among the young visitors.

Insights into the "Future Engineers" Category

Our colleague Jannik served as a jury member in the "Future Engineers" competition category. Participants were tasked with developing a robot that autonomously navigates a predefined course while flexibly reacting to obstacles. The evaluation focused not only on technical aspects but especially on the methodological approach, documentation, and justification of the solution steps — a demanding assessment concept that closely mirrors the real development process in industry.

Recognition of Outstanding Achievements

On Saturday, the winning teams were honored by our Head of Marketing, Carolin. She presented certificates to the top three teams, who thereby qualified for the world final in Singapore.
Additionally, we awarded the special prize “MURTFELDT Material Master” to a team that impressed with an especially intelligent and efficient use of materials on their robot — without compromising on weight or agility.

The Engineers of Tomorrow

What moved us most was the enthusiasm, curiosity, and technical understanding with which the children and young people tackled the challenges. Their creativity and team spirit are exactly what we call "Future Engineers" — young talents who will drive innovation tomorrow. We hope that through our commitment on-site and our booth, we were able to inspire even more visitors and participants for technology and STEM careers.

We warmly congratulate all qualified teams on their participation in the European final in Slovenia and the world final in Singapore, and thank the organizers and everyone involved for this inspiring and forward-looking event.
