Murtfeldt’s mindset is green
And not just because our tradition-rich Original Material "S"® green® plastic has a strong presence in day-to-day activities. It is above all down to our commitment to integrating all our actions into an environmentally compatible concept.
Murtfeldt readily and consciously commits itself to protecting the environment. We believe that a company not only provides economic value to its environment, but that it has intellectual and social worth too. And environmental responsibility is by no means at odds with economic success in this respect. Sustainability and economic profitability go hand in hand for companies that want to operate successfully in the long term.
Certified environmental and energy management.
Statutory standards help to pave the way through a wealth of regulations. Murtfeldt is well ahead of most of these standards. As early as 1997, we introduced an environmental management system in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14001, which we still follow today. In practical terms, this means: Chippings produced during production are collected and reprocessed into semi-finished products of a defined B quality at our subsidiary Murdotec, and these are in turn supplied back to Murtfeldt for production.
Acquiring new machines is subject to strict environmental criteria. Plus, roof solar panels ensure that Murtfeldt not only consumes energy, it generates it too. A total of 173,353 kilowatt hours in 2022. We have proven our commitment to the environment and continue to do so: In 2006, Murtfeldt received the “Ökoprofit” award by the City of Dortmund for its efficient use of resources and sustainable consideration of the environment. Recertification followed in 2007. This award signified our consistent continuation of our environmental management concept.
Today, DQS GmbH regularly audits and certifies Murtfeldt’s environmental management according to ISO 14001 and energy management according to ISO 50001.
News from the area of Corporate Social Responsibility
Power for the equivalent of 300 households.
At the end of December 2019, our Dutch subsidiary Mata Kunststoffen commissioned a photovoltaic plant that has been generating green electricity with a total capacity of 1,100,000 kWh since 1 January 2020. An amount that is the equivalent of powering 300 households. Mata uses the plant to cover its own energy consumption and feeds the remaining amount into the public grid. Back in Dortmund, we offer a charging station for electric cars, as the Murtfeldt fleet is gradually being converted to electric drive vehicles. Employees and visitors alike use this charging station to refuel their vehicles at prices subsidised by Murtfeldt.
